HELP is newly launched pilot project,
The City of Toronto provides funding required to complete the energy efficiency improvements – also called retrofits – and the loan is repaid through installments on your property tax bill. Examples of retrofits that are covered are items like upgrading the insulation and replacing your furnace, which can increase home comfort, reduce harmful emissions and help you save on your energy costs.
The new HELP program works especially well with the Enbridge Community Energy Conservation Program. The incentives you receive from Enbridge will be deducted from the total amount of your HELP loan, making it even easier to repay.
It's important to note the HELP program is attached to the property and not the property owner, meaning that if you sell the home before the loan is repaid, the new homeowner assumes the balance of the loan and continues to repay it through the property tax bill. The Loan term is for 15 years, or can be paid off in full at anytime without penalty before this time.
Currently in the pilot phase, the HELP program is available in select neighbourhoods of Toronto and will be expanded to other areas in later stages of the program. If the first three digits of your postal code are listed below, HELP financing is available to you:
- Black Creek: M3N
